    Modi-Sisi sign MoUs to boost Indian-Egyptian trade to $12 billion

    Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, president of Egypt, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi today in New Delhi. During this visit, India and Egypt exchanged MoUs on cyber security, culture, information technology, youth affairs and broadcasting. After the meeting, Prime Minister Modi stated that terrorism is the greatest security threat to humanity, and India and Egypt are concerned about its spread.

    Bilateral relations have been elevated to strategic partnership, he said. Both countries have plenty of opportunities in the defence sector, Modi said. The India-Egypt strategic partnership can lead to political, defense, and scientific development. According to the Prime Minister, both nations have also agreed to further strengthen defense industry cooperation and increase counterterrorism intelligence exchanges. In five years, Mr Modi predicted $12 billion in bilateral trade between both nations.

    Egypt’s president, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, said Indian investment in Egypt was discussed because the country has many investment opportunities. According to him, both countries discussed enhancing trade and investment cooperation. Egypt and India discussed fighting terrorism and radicalization and increasing defence cooperation.

    Egypt’s President arrived in India yesterday evening for a three-day visit. Sisi was the Chief Guest on India’s 74th Republic Day. A ceremonial welcome was accorded to President Sisi at Rashtrapati Bhavan this morning. A number of leaders were present, including President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Modi. In tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, President Sisi laid a wreath at Rajghat. The External Affairs Minister also met with the Egyptian President this morning.

    During his speech in the morning, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said participating in the glorious national day is a great privilege. Egypt-India relations have been characterized by stability and balance. According to Sisi, bilateral relations between the two countries will be strengthened further.
